We are Dermatology at VCU: A Message from our Chair

As experts in the care of disorders of the hair, skin and nails, we treat dermatologic disease in all skin types, all ages and all forms. We are proud that our patients, colleagues and community members look to us as leaders and collaborators in the effort to promote skin health throughout the city and region.

With an expanding list of subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinics VCU Dermatology is a referral base for disorders including alopecia, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

Advances in the field of dermatology are expanding rapidly, and our department is committed to growing with these advances and to sharing that knowledge with our residents, medical students and colleagues. Through our residency program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and in partnership with the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, we educate and train future dermatologists who are prepared and committed to sharing their expertise and providing care throughout the country.

With an increasing emphasis on research and scholarship, we value the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and basic science research, thus contributing to the body of knowledge that will shape the future of treating dermatologic diseases.

Excellence is our goal in service to our patients and in service to one another. We value every patient entrusted to our care, and we value every member of our team. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Dermatology at VCU.

Laurence DiNardo, M.D.

Residency

The VCU Department of Dermatology offers a three-year residency program that leads to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Dermatology. Our program begins with the second post-graduate year (PGY-2), and residents must complete a broad-based clinical year in an ACGME-accredited program or similar program accredited in Canada.

Life in Richmond

Urban life with a small-town feel

We encourage our students and researchers to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and Richmond is a wonderful place to engage in that well-rounded lifestyle. As the capital of Virginia since 1779, Richmond attracts students, faculty and staff from around the globe. The city’s location affords easy day trips to destinations like Washington, DC, Virginia Beach, Colonial Williamsburg and the Blue Ridge Mountains, among others.

As a mid-sized city with a metropolitan population of 1.3 million, Richmond provides stimulating activities while maintaining its intimate feel and unique vibe. Vibrant neighborhoods offer distinct, diverse experiences, with no shortage of art galleries, museums, music venues, restaurants, breweries and parks. For the outdoor enthusiast, you can’t beat the offerings in the city’s riverfront parks and urban wilderness areas such as white-water rafting, hiking, mountain biking and festivals.
